PREFACE

A vocational training is a preparation for the real practice. Knowledge and skill are not the only things required for this, but also the acquaintance with the real practice. By introducing a vocational training in practice as part of the education, the participant gets acquainted with companies and the activities at work in these companies. The education consist of 8 semesters, of which the 5th and the 8th semester are meant for the practical vocational training.

The practical vocational training in the 5th semester is called the ORIENTATING PRACTICAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING, and the practical vocational training in the 8th semester is called the FINAL PRACTICAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING. This information is primarily meant for participants, but the vocational supervisors in the companies will also be well-informed after having read this guide. For participants it is important to realize that this is a way in which a company is playing a major role in the participant's education.

Companies that offer practical training places, are responsible for maintaining good educations and thus they contribute to a future in which well-educated technical workers are available for the labour-market.

INTRODUCTION

It requires a careful preparation to meet the demands of a successful, orientating and final vocational training. It is a favour from the trade and industry that vocational training places are offered. Therefore you may never demand many things when applying for a vocational training place. However, some purposes must be realized. Therefore you need to consult with the company.

Of course, the company must be able to offer the possibilities to achieve these goals, otherwise there can be no mention of a practical training.
In short, you will have to look for a suitable vocational training company. Our school has made contact with various companies throughout the years. These companies are listed on the schoollist and they have been judged (for the time being) as competent addresses by the national board of vocational education.

What is going to happen?

In the 4th and 7th semester interviews with the practical vocational teacher are held in class. With the help of a list of companies the practical vocational teachers explain further details about the practical training activities. The vocational teachers try to make a list that meets the personal wishes as much as possible.

Subsequently, you are enlisted with the practical vocational teacher. He/She invites you for an interview. During this interview it is decided at which company you can apply for a position, and in which way this is going to happen. During the lessons Dutch attention is paid to the application, in this case enlistment.

During the application procedures there often is an interview at the company. Here clear agreements are made. Eventually these agreements are written down in a vocational training contract (enclosure 1). It is important that you have arranged everything before you pass on to the vocational training semesters.

In this vocational training guide you will find a detailed description of all guide- lines related to the information and course of the practical vocational training period. Read this guide carefully, which enables you to ask direct questions at the informative meeting without being taken aback.
